Doctor’s Paint Brush: Art Exhibition on Aug.4

Mysuru: ‘Doctor’s Paint Brush,’ an exhibition and sale of traditional Mysore style art alongside  contemporary style painting, modern and folk art by Dr. Shailaja Prashanth, Consultant Paediatrician, has been organised at Suchitra Art Gallery, Kalamandira premises, on Aug.4 from 10 am to 7 pm.

The event will be inaugurated at 11 am by Vikram Muthanna, Managing Editor, Star of Mysore. Prof. B.K. Chandrashekar, former Minister, Shubha Achaiah, Principal, NPS International, Mysuru, M. Girija, Traditional Painter, CAVA and Dr. Narayanappa, HoD, Paediatrics, JSS Hospital, will be the guests of honour. Proceeds of this event will go to SK Charitable Foundation Trust. Mysore style paintings are known for their elegance, muted colours, and attention to detail. The themes for most of these paintings are Hindu Gods and Goddesses and scenes from Hindu Mythology. Other forms displayed in this exhibition are Gond art, Madhubani Painting, Warli Folk Painting, Pattachitra Painting, Rajasthani Miniature Painting and Ganjifa art.

Art is a creative outlet that helps to balance the day to day pressures of Medical practice. Medical science saves lives, but art has its own healing properties and perhaps life altering changes in the society, opines Dr. Shailaja. 

Profile: Dr. Shailaja Prashanth is a Consultant Paediatrician, Mysore Kids Clinic and Visiting Clinician, Columbia Asia Hospital, Mysuru. She did her initial training in United Kingdom at various University Hospitals, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and North West region, prior to commencing as a Consultant.

Her career in Medicine has inspired her art and developed an appreciation to the huge communicative power of Arts. She balances her work with regular painting sessions at her in-house studio and favourite mediums include acrylic, oil painting, water colour and vegetable colours. She is also a keen yoga enthusiast and training in Mandolin Karnatak Music.
