Doctors’ Virtual Choir video released

August 1, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Alterdoctor — a platform for doctors to express their hobbies such as writing reflections and experiences, photography, art, music etc., — recently released a video featuring more than 50 doctors and medical students in an All India Doctors’ Virtual Choir to celebrate the  pride and honour of being in medical profession and to reflect on the Mission of a Doctor.

“The medical fraternity has had to experience a lot of hardships over the last one year due to COVID-19, exam delays and instances of violence against doctors. Hence, we felt that a virtual choir involving healthcare workers across the country would not only express solidarity but also spread message of hope and positivity as music heals the soul,” said Dr. Nitin Yashas, who is a Medical Oncology Resident and Co-founder of Alterdoctor.

He said the songs chosen were Heal the World by Michael Jackson which was a perfect description of what a Mission of a Doctor is while the poem Agnipath and the song Kar Har Maidan Fateh serve as powerful motivational songs that inspire healthcare workers to never give up and to overcome odds.

Dr. Maya Mascarenhas, who is a Doctor-Musician & has had experience of conducting choirs over decades as part of Bangalore Chorus Group, was incharge of coordinating the music along with her husband Eric Samuel.

“A virtual choir needs a lot of planning, coordination and involves different groups of singers such as Melody, Tenor, Bass and Alto to listen and practise with learning tracks that we would have prepared,  before recording their parts. However, the abundance of musical talent and enthusiasm among medicos and the precision with which they shot their recordings made the editing task much easier than imagined,” said Dr. Maya.

The video features medicos from more than 20 institutes across the country. Dr. Kiranmayee from Public Health Research Institute of India, Mysuru and Dr. P. John from JSS, Mysuru, also participated in this event. The video has been released on Treat – the channel for doctors on YouTube [Link of the video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEJpfTlyHtw].
