Mysore/Mysuru: The accused in the double murder, which took place on Oct. 21 night at Srinagar near Ramabai Nagar has been arrested by Mysuru South Police yesterday morning.
The accused, identified as Sagar was absconding after hacking his father and the woman and the Police swooped on him when he was trying to board a lorry to flee to Mandya last morning.
Sagar had hacked his father Shivaprakash (54) and Tulasi (48) – name changed to protect family honour – a widow and had fled from the spot. Yesterday at about 8.30 am, Sagar was about to flee to his wife’s house in Mandya in a lorry and the Police, acting on a tip off conducted an operation and arrested Sagar besides recovering the machete and the bike used for the crime. Sagar was produced before a Magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody, according to the Police.
Sagar, who was upset about his father meeting Tulasi, was Seething in anger and was waiting to strike. On Oct. 21 at about 10 pm, Sagar, after confirming that his father was with Tulasi, reached Srinagar and knocked on the door. An unsuspecting Shivaprakash opened the door and Sagar hit his chest with the machete he had brought with him, killing him instantly. Hearing the commotion, Tulasi came out of the house only to be assaulted by Sagar, who lunged at her and hit her with the sharp machete killing her too. Tulasi’s son Nagarjuna, who came to her rescue, was also assaulted but he managed to escape with injuries. Nagarjuna is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Based on the complaint from Tulasi’s son-in-law Jayashankar and the statement from Nagarjuna, Mysuru South Police had registered a case and arrested Sagar yesterday morning.
