Double murder at Mandya: Sleeping labourers murdered at brick factory in Yaliyur

Mandya: Two labourers were allegedly murdered while they were sleeping at a brick kiln in Yaliyur village in the taluk on Thursday night and the murders came to light the next day when the owner came to the kiln in the morning.

The deceased labourers are Basavaraju (44), a resident of Tadagawadi in Srirangapatna taluk and Ramamurthy (46), a resident of Maralakunte village in Nelamangala taluk.

One Cheluvaraju of Gutalu Layout in Mandya is running the kiln in the name of Maruthi Bricks at a farm near Yeliyur and the deceased, who were working in the brick kiln since about eight years, used to sleep at the kiln after their work.

On Thursday too, Basavaraju and Ramamurthy, after finishing their work slept at the kiln and when Cheluvaraju came the next day morning, he saw Basavaraju and Ramamurthy murdered and immediately informed the Police.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Parashuram, Dy.SP Naveen Kumar, Sub-Inspector Siddaraju and staff rushed to the spot and conducted preliminary investigation.

The Police suspect that the deceased may have consumed liquor along with others during which a fight may have taken place resulting in the murders. 

The Cops said that information is being collected and the accused would be brought to book soon.

The bodies were later shifted to the District Hospital mortuary. 

Mandya Rural Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating and have taken one person into custody and are interrogating him.
