Dr. Jyothi’s unique tribute to Lord of Gokula

A special music album, “A day in the life of Gokula” conceptualised by city’s well-known musician Dr. M.A. Jyothi will be released tomorrow (June 18) at 10.30 am at Mysore Vasudevacharya Bhavana, Nadabrahma Sangeeta Sabha,  JLB Road. Vidu. Dr. T.S. Sathyavathi will be releasing the CD. Vidu. Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar will preside.

Profile: Dr. Jyothi, a versatile Karnatak musician started learning from her mother Vidu. Neeraja Achuta Rao and later under Vidu. Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar and Vidu.Neela Ramgopal.  She is also an accomplished violinist having honed her skills under the legendary maestro Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. Widely travelled, the researcher in her prompted her to venture into the ever-amazing world of Sri Krishna and His pastimes…as Balakrishna, Gopala, Giridhara, Muralidhara, Radhakrishna…from the Eternal Enchanter to the Erudite Enlightened Guru.

‘A day in the life of Gokula’ is a story of how the people of Gokula are smitten by Krishna and his flute. It’s about the quest of the Murali/Venu/Kuzhal/Kolalu/Bansuri to reach Krishna. In this audio, a variety of compositions dating from medieval period such as Krishna Karunamrutam of Vilwamangala Swami, the Ashtachaap Kavis of 17th century, Oothukadu Venkata Kavi (c.1700-1765), Saint Thygaraja (1767-1847) to that of the 20th century like Da Ra Bendre,Pu Thi Na, H. Yoganarasimham and Lalgudi Jayaraman have been rendered. The story of Krishna and his flute is celebrated by the medium of music to touch the soul of the listener to spread the message of love and hope.
