Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa to release book on Tipu at Rangayana

Mysore/Mysuru: A play book on Tipu Sultan ‘Tipu Nijakanasugalu’ (The Real Dreams of Tipu) will be released by acclaimed writer and Saraswathi Samman awardee Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa at a programme organised at Vanaranga in Rangayana premises here on  Nov. 13 at 4 pm.

Disclosing this at a press meet at B.V. Karanth Ranga Chavadi in Rangayana premises here recently, Rangayana Mysuru Director Addanda C. Cariappa said that he himself has authored the book which is published by Ayodhya Prakashana, Bengaluru.

“The book highlights the true facts of the Mysuru ruler. It is based on the collection of letters written by Tipu which are preserved in the British Library. These letters which were originally written by Tipu in Persian language were translated by historian and University of Mysore former Vice-Chancellor K.M. Panikkar into Malayalam. Later, researcher Dr. M. Chidananda Murthy translated it into Kannada,” he said.

Dr. Bhyrappa has written the preface for the book while columnist and Yuva Brigade Founder Chakravarty Sulibele has written the epilogue. Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha and Social Worker Vadhiraj of Samarasya Vedike, Bengaluru, will be the chief guests. Writer Rohith Chakrathirtha will speak about the book. Journalist Vrushanka Bhat will be present.

First show on Nov. 20

“The first show of the play ‘Tipu Nijakanasugalu’ under by direction will be staged on Nov. 20 at 6 pm at Bhoomigeeta in Rangayana premises. In all, it is a 30-member team including 15 Rangayana artistes and 10 guest artistes. Theatre Director Shashidhar Udupa and Costume Designer Pramod Shiggaon have assisted me in directing the play. Subrahmanya and Dhananjay have composed music while S. Ramanath has given lighting to the play,” Cariappa said.

The play, which is 3 hours-20 minutes will have a 10-minute break in the middle. Online ticket booking facility will be available. The play will be later staged on Nov. 21, 24, 26, 27, 30 and Dec. 4. However, there are plans to give at least 100 shows  across the State.
