Five-day music extravaganza in city from Dec. 2 to 6
Mysore/Mysuru: Singer and Sanskrit Scholar Karnataka Kalashree Dr. T.S. Sathyavathi has been selected as the President of the 5-day 30th JSS Sangeetha Sammelana, organised by JSS Sangeetha Sabha Trust in commemoration of Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, from Dec. 2 to 6 at Navajyothi auditorium of JSS Women’s College in Saraswathipuram, according to a press release from Sabha Secretary T.P. Prabhuswamy and Trustee Prof. K. Ramamurthy Rao.
Dr. T.S. Sathyavathi is a Karnatak classical vocalist and scholar of international repute. She is a child prodigy who sang two compositions at the age of two before the Maharani (Queen) of Mysore. She has received training from several renowned musicians including Padma Bhushan Vid. R.K. Srikantan. She has been an enthralling performer for over four decades at various prestigious venues, both in India and abroad.
In addition, Sathyavathi has a Ph.D from the Bangalore University for her thesis ‘Contribution of Abhilashitartha Chintamani to Indian Music.’ She has conducted several workshops and appreciation programmes in music for students across the world.
She has been serving the field in various capacities such as being in honorary positions in several prestigious organisations including Indian Institute of World Culture, Percussive Arts Centre, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, IGNCA, Disha & many more, being the Chairperson for the Search Committee to select the Vice-Chancellor for KSGH Music and Performing Arts University, being evaluator of Ph.D theses for several Universities, authoring the book ‘Chatushashti Kala – 64 Arts’, translating several texts on Music & Arts, & more. She is a much sought after guru having to her credit a large number of students who are graded artistes on the All India Radio and Doordarshan.
She is presently the President of the prestigious Indian Institute of World Culture, Executive Director of Percussive Arts Centre and Member, Executive Committee, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bengaluru Kendra.
She has received many accolades and awards from reputed institutions across the country, the latest being ‘Sangeeta Pracharya Award’ from Sri Shanmukhananda Sabha, Mumbai. It has been her passion and mission to combine her knowledge of Music and Sanskrit for the greater benefit of Performing Arts.
Dr. T.S. Sathyavathi will be honoured with the prestigious ‘Sangeetha Vidyanidhi’ Award along with gold medal in the presence of Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji at the valedictory of JSS Music Conference in city on Dec. 6.
