Drains around Kalamandira cleared of used plates, cups and bottles

Hundreds of used food plates, water bottles and tea cups are thrown into a drain at Kalamandira by people who consume food and snacks at food outlets inside Kalamandira and its surrounding campus. These food waste blocks the natural flow of rain water in the drains. Seeing this, environmentally conscious citizens under the banner of Kukkarahalli Kere Ulisi Samithi and Green Mysuru alerted the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep on a WhatsApp Group. Swinging into action, the DC ordered immediate removal of the waste materials. And now the drains have been cleaned. In an appeal to food consumers, the Samithi has urged them not to dispose of food waste in the drains and use designated waste bins instead. That too when the city is desperately trying to win back the Cleanest City Award, such actions are uncalled for, they said.
