Drought: Kannada Sahitya Sammelana postponed

September 19, 2023

Mandya: With the State Government officially declaring that 195 taluks as drought hit, the Kannada Sahitya Parishat has postponed the 87th Akhila Bharath Kannada Sahitya Sammelana that was proposed to take place in the Sugar town of Mandya in December this year.

Speaking to presspersons here recently, Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Mahesh Joshi said that the Sammelana has been postponed as it is not correct to celebrate the Kannada literary festival at a time when the State is facing drought and crores of Kannadigas are in distress.

Observing that with the State facing drought, even Dasara should be celebrated in a simple manner, Dr. Joshi said that similarly, the scale of all other festivals should be toned down and celebrated in a simple and purposeful manner.
