83 students from 2019-20 and 2020-21 batches to be conferred various degrees
Mysore/Mysuru: The Fifth and Sixth Convocation ceremonies of Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University (Music Varsity), Mysuru, for the academic years 2019-20 and 2020-21 respectively are scheduled to be held tomorrow (Oct. 18) at Vijnana Bhavan in Manasagangothri here at 4 pm.
Addressing media persons at Music Varsity premises in Lakshmipuram last evening, Vice-Chancellor of Music Varsity Prof. Nagesh V. Bettakote said “Governor-Chancellor Thaawarchand Gehlot will be presiding over the ceremony, where a total of 83 students will be conferred various degrees, along with honoris causa for six prominent dignitaries and D.Litt for six other eminent achievers.”
Minister for Higher Education Dr. M.C. Sudhakar, who is also the pro-Chancellor of the Varsity and former VC of Karnataka State Sanskrit University Prof. Mallepuram G. Venkatesh will be the chief guests.
Of the total 83 graduates, following students of 2019-20 batch will be receiving various degrees. Department of Karnatak Music Vocal: Eight students will be receiving Post-Graduate (PG) degree and two students will receive degree certificates.
While in Department of Hindustani Music Vocal – Four students will be receiving PG and three degree certificates, followed by Department of Tabla – Four PG Degree, Department of Bharatanatyam – 11 PG Degree and one degree, Department of Drama – Two PG Degree and three degree certificates.
Gold Medallists
Vignesh Damodara Kamath and Divya Keshavan of Master of Performing Arts (MPA) top the list of Gold Medal winners and cash prizes. Kamath of Department of Hindustani Music Vocal has bagged highest of four Gold Medals and one cash prize, while Divya of Department of Karnatak Music Vocal also has got four Gold Medals.
S.V. Karthik of Department of Tabla and S. Nethra, Department of Bharatanatyam have both secured two Gold Medals; S. Rashmi, Department of Karnataka Music Vocal and M.S. Santhosh, Department of Drama, have got one medal each.
While in Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) R.C. Lakshmi, Department of Karnatak Music Vocal has secured highest of two Gold Medals, followed by B.J. Sumitra, Department of Bharatanatyam and D.M. Dakshayini, Department of Hindustani Music Vocal, have secured one medal each.
2020-21 batch: Department of Karnatak Music Vocal – Nine students will be receiving their PG Degree and four Degree, Department of Hindustani Music Vocal – Five PG Degree and three Degree, Department of Tabla – Two each PG Degree and Degree, Department of Bharathanatyam – Eight PG Degree and six Degree, Department of Drama – Three PG Degree and one degree certificate.
While in MPA, Shreesha G. Bhat, Department of Karnatak Music Vocal has secured highest of seven Gold Medals, followed by V. Sneha, Department of Bharatanatyam, three Gold Medals, Kiran Yavgal, Department of Tabla and Chinmaya Shankar, Department of Hindustani Music Vocal, two Gold Medals each.
N. Divya, Department of Drama, K.A. Moulya, Department of Hindustani Music Vocal and M. Bhargavi, Department of Karnataka Music Vocal have secured one Gold Medal each.
Among BPA, Sindhu V. Acharya, Department of Bharatantayam, has secured highest of three Gold Medals, followed by Suvarna Nayak, Karnatak Classical Music Vocal, two Gold Medals and Darshan M. Prasad, Department of Hindustani Music Vocal, one Gold Medal.
Honorary D.Litt for Hamsalekha, five others
Six eminent achievers have been selected for honorary D. Litt — Kannada film music director and lyricist Hamsalekha, for the studies on ‘Desi Sangeetha: Idani – Sa Ri Ga Ma Pa Da Ni Arambha’, from the Faculty of Performing Arts.
M. Manjunatha on ‘Karnataka Prajasatthathmaka Prakriyeyalli Dr. Rajkumar Patra’, Faculty of Performing Arts.
S. Soumya on ‘Karnatak String Instruments of Southern Karnataka’, Faculty of Instrumental Music.
K.N. Hiranaiah on ‘Rangabhoomi Ondu Vruththipara Adhayana’, Faculty of Theatre Arts; A.R. Shalini on ‘Study of Dancing Elements in The Sculptures of Konark Temple and Other Important Temples of Bhuvaneshwar,’ Faculty of Dance and A. Lokesh on ‘Analysis of Physiology-Psychological Changes from Yogic Practice Among Post Graduate Performing Arts University Students of Karnataka,’ Faculty of Performing Arts.

Honorary Doctorates for Ganapathy Seer, five others
Six eminent personalities have been chosen for Music Varsity Honorary Doctorates. For the academic year 2019-20, Vidushi D. Shashikala, the visually challenged serving the field of Karnatak Classical Music for 40 years has been chosen along with Hindustani Classical vocalist Pt. Vinayak Toravi and Madhusudhan Sai for his study and education in the field of Music.
For the year 2020-21, Avadhoota Datta Peetha Seer Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji has been chosen for his contribution to the field of Research in Music, along with Hindustani Classical vocalist Pt. Shripada Hegade Kampli and Karnatak Classical musician Prof. S.C. Sharma, also Director of NAAC.
