Durbar Hall gets ready for Golden Throne assembly

October 3, 2026

Rituals on Oct. 5; Palace entry restricted on Oct. 5, 11, 20, 21 and Nov. 19

Mysuru: This Dasara’s first major event, the assembling of the Golden Throne at the Private Durbar Hall, will take place on Monday (Oct. 5) and preparations are in full swing at the Mysore Palace.
The erstwhile Royal Family continues to follow the centuries-old traditions associated with Dasara celebrations every year. This year, the preparations have gained added significance following the State Government’s announcement of grand Dasara celebrations.
On Oct. 5, the rituals will begin at 7.30 am with Navagraha Homa and purification of the premises. At 10.20 am, the dismantled parts of the Golden Throne will be brought out from the strong room and assembled as per tradition. The Bhadrāsana will also be placed at the Kannadi Thotti.
The ‘Pattada Aane’, ‘Pattada Hasu’ and ‘Pattada Kudure’ will be taken in a procession to the Goshaala as part of the rituals.

The Mysore Palace will remain closed to visitors on Oct. 5. Banners and notices will be put up at all entrances and exits to inform tourists about the restrictions.
As part of the preparations, red carpets have been laid across the Palace. The areas where the private ceremonies are held have also been cleaned, with the gold-leafed pillars, floors and walls being wiped and swept.
Before the Golden Throne is assembled, the Homa Kunda for the Ganapathi Homa will be placed at the designated spot in consultation with Pramoda Devi Wadiyar. The throne will be assembled under tight security, following the same procedure that has been followed over the years.
After the Golden Throne is assembled, the lion-head will be fixed to it. This will be followed by the scion of the Royal Family, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, also Mysuru-Kodagu MP, ascending the ‘Simhasana’ to conduct the Private Durbar.
Palace Board Deputy Director T.S. Subramanya said all traditional rituals were being followed during the preparations.
