Mysuru: Following several complaints from students about lack of toilets at Maharani’s Science College during Higher Education Minister G.T. Devegowda’s visit to the college recently and the Minister subsequently issuing instructions to MCC Commissioner to look into the issue, the MCC has installed an e-toilet and has also installed a sanitary napkin vending machine and an incinerator in the college premises.
The facilities were inaugurated by MLA L. Nagendra and Mayor B. Bhagyavathi this morning.
While the students have to insert Re. 1 coin to use the e-toilet, Rs. 5 coin has to be inserted into the sanitary napkin vending machine for a napkin.
An incinerator is also installed to destroy used sanitary pads. Meanwhile, Principal N. Srinivas told SOM that JK Tyres are constructing 20 toilet blocks under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and the Higher Education Department has sanctioned Rs. 47 lakh to construct 30 more toilets.
He said that earlier, about 2,800 to 2,900 students were getting themselves admitted to the college and this year the strength is 3,900, which is 1,000 more students and hence there was shortage of toilets in the college.
