Earmark basement at suburban bus stand for parking, not for stashing goods

December 9, 2017

Sir,

The current move by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to vacate the unauthorised business establishments in the cellar and in the basement parking needs to be appreciated.  If there is a violation in the basement  usage from the approved drawing, the owner of the building needs to be penalised and  punished. The tenant should be spared of legal issues.

Similarly, action should be initiated against the function hall promoters also.  Many of the function halls have their basement as parking  area in the approval, but have converted the basement to dining hall,  thus clogging the roads with vehicles all around the function hall.

When the Government constructed a modern suburban bus stand on Bengaluru-Nilgiri road, it was anticipated that the perennial problem of parking would be resolved. But unfortunately a badly designed basement parking did not in any way mitigate the parking woes.

To add to the woes, the shop-keepers of the bus stand have encroached the basement parking as their un-official and un-licenced godown dumping all sorts of items. Mysuru City Corporation should ensure that basement parking at the suburban  bus stand is used for parking and not for stashing their goods.
