Mysore/Mysuru: Senior Advocate of Bengaluru and former Karnataka Advocate General Ashok Haranahalli was elected as the new President of Akhila Karnataka Brahmana Mahasabha at Bengaluru on Sunday.
The polls to elect the President was held at Mysuru, Hassan, Raichur, Hubballi and Shivamogga on Dec. 12, while the same was held at Bengaluru yesterday. There were three contestants in the fray — Ashok Haranahalli, S. Raghunath and R. Lakshmikanth.
After the polling at Bengaluru ended on Sunday (Dec. 19)evening, the counting of votes polled in all the six places was taken up and the results were declared late last night, by Chief Electoral Officer H.K. Srinivas.
Ashok Haranahalli, who bagged the highest number of votes (4,424), was declared elected by a margin of 455 votes. He was followed by S. Raghunath who bagged 3,969 votes and R. Lakshmikanth who got 2,239 votes.
A total of 10,704 voters, including 7,056 in Bengaluru, 1,221 in Mysuru, 1,083 in Shivamogga, 615 in Hassan, 374 in Raichur and 355 in Hubballi had cast their votes, out of which 72 were found invalid, when the counting was taken up at Bengaluru yesterday.
