Election Commission to hold by-poll in Kundgol on May 19

April 18, 2019

Hubballi: The Election Commission has announced the date for the by-poll for Kundagol Assembly constituency which fell vacant after the death of MLA C.S. Shivalli.

Polling will be held on May 19 and votes will be counted on May 23. The gazette notification will be issued on Apr.22, last date for the submission of nominations is Apr.29 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 2, said a release.

Shivalli was the Minister for Municipal Administration in the H.D. Kumaraswamy-led State Government and he died of a massive cardiac arrest on Mar.22.

Shivalli had defeated BJP’s S.I. Chikkanagoudar with a meagre margin of 637 votes in the Assembly election. Congress, BJP and JD(S) leaders have started preparations for the by-poll.

The parties have a big list of ticket aspirants. The only question in the minds of Congress workers is whether the party will give the ticket to Shivalli’s wife.
