Mysuru: In all probability, the official result of the Mysuru-Kodagu LS Constituency will be declared by 6 pm or 7 pm on May 23, said Mysuru Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abhiram G. Sankar, who is also the Returning Officer for the Constituency.
Speaking to reporters at Maneyangala in Kalamandira premises here this morning after participating in Shankara Jayanti celebrations, the DC said that 14 tables would be used to count votes which will commence at 8 am on May 23. Counting of postal ballots would be taken up first and each table will have three staff and counting would go on in 18 rounds. The counting rounds might increase depending on the number of votes polled.
The Supreme Court has increased Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) verification to five random Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in each Assembly segment/ constituency. In case of general elections, VVPAT slips of five EVMs in each Assembly segment of a Parliamentary Constituency would be subject to physical counting.
In State Assembly elections, the VVPAT verification would extend to five random EVMs in each Assembly constituency. Due to the SC order and the resultant verification process, the official result might be delayed by a couple of hours.
Continuing, Abhiram Sankar said that a workshop for candidates and polling agents would be held in a week. Similarly a meeting of Police officials will also be held.
