Elections to 58 Urban Local Bodies on Dec. 27

Counting of votes on Dec. 30

Bengaluru: The elections to 58 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) which have completed their term, will be held on Dec.27.

The Election Commission announced the schedule for the polls on Monday. As per the schedule, the elections will take place for five City Municipal Councils (CMCs), 19 Town Municipal Councils (TMCs) and 34 Town Panchayats (TPs).

The tenure of Chikkamagalur, Gadag-Betageri, Hospet and Sira CMCs, Athani, Annigeri and Bankapur TMCs had ended in March 2019, while the tenure of the rest of the ULBs had ended in different months of this year.

The Karnataka High Court had recently ordered conduct of elections by Dec. 30, 2021 to all ULBs whose tenure had expired.

Following the order, Election Commission has announced the poll schedule, according to which the election notification will be issued on Dec. 8.

The last date for filing of nomination papers is Dec. 15.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on Dec. 16 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is Dec.18.

The polling will take place on Dec. 27 from 7 am to 5 pm. Repoll, if necessary, will be held on Dec. 29 and the counting of votes will be taken up on Dec. 30.

With the announcement of the poll schedule, the Model Code of Conduct will come into force from Dec. 8 in the limits of all Urban Local Bodies which go to polls.

Meanwhile, election to 1,264  seats in a total of 57 Gram Panchayats in the State, which are lying vacant, too will take place on Dec. 27. Poll notification will be issued on Dec. 13 and the last date for filing of nomination papers is Dec.17.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on Dec. 18 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is Dec. 20. The polling will take place on Dec. 27 and the counting of votes will be taken up on Dec. 30.
