Both victims were bank staff in Hunsur and Ernakulam

Mysuru: An engaged couple, who were scheduled to get married on Dec. 26, were found dead hours apart at Hunsur in Mysuru District and Ernakulam in Kerala on Aug. 12.

The deceased have been identified as P. Anushree, 25, who was working at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Hunsur and was a native of Poochakkad in Kasaragod, and V. Amal, 26, who was working at an SBI branch in Ernakulam and hailed from Ambalathatta in Iritty. Both were found hanging at their respective places of stay. The couple had got engaged two months ago at Anushree’s home in Poochakkad and were scheduled to get married on Dec. 26.

Anushree had worked at the Hunsur SBI branch until Tuesday night (Aug. 11). When her sister called her later that night, Anushree reportedly said she was speaking to Amal over the phone.

Mysuru SP Mallikarjun Baladandi told Star of Mysore this morning that the tragedy occurred following an argument between the couple during a phone call.

“Around 12 am, Amal contacted Anushree’s landlord in Hunsur, stating that her phone was switched off and requesting him to check on her. Although the landlord knocked on her door, there was no response. Distraught, Amal also alerted Anushree’s parents in Kasaragod, who immediately rushed to Hunsur,” he said.

When Anushree failed to answer repeated calls from her family on Wednesday morning, they alerted the neighbours. The landlord and her family members later broke open the door of her residence, located opposite the Hunsur Bus Stand, and found her hanging.

Death in Ernakulam

Amal was staying with friends in Palarivattom. After learning about Anushree’s death, he took a room at a lodge near Ernakulam North Railway Station at around 8.45 am on Wednesday and shared his location with his friends.

When he did not respond to their calls, his friends went to the lodge, forced open the door and found him dead.

Ernakulam North Police conducted the inquest and shifted the body to the General Hospital mortuary.

Hunsur Town Inspector Shivamadaiah told Star of Mysore that the Police conducted the inquest and, following post-mortem at Devaraj Urs Hospital in Hunsur, Anushree’s body was taken to her home in Poochakkad on Wednesday evening and cremated.

Police have recovered their mobile phones and teams are extracting and analysing the contents as part of the investigation. “We are currently analysing mobile data, call records and digital evidence from both phones to determine the circumstances leading up to the tragedy,” he said.

Anushree is survived by her father, K. Chandran, who runs Malabar Gas Distribution Agency in Nileshwaram, mother Reena and sister Sreelakshmi. Amal is survived by his father Sudhakaran, mother A. Anitha and sister Nakshatra.
