Mysuru: District Administration, District Legal Services Authority, Department of Public Instructions, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) and Janajagruthi Grameena Abhivrudhi Samsthe, conducted essay and painting competitions for school children at Kukkarahalli Lake premises in city this morning, to mark World Environment Day on June 5.
Around 300 students from more than 10 schools had taken part in the competition. Children were seen painting pictures depicting deforestation, man chopping trees to make way for industries, mother earth crying and so on. The topic for the essay writing was ‘Connecting people with nature.’ The contest was conducted in three batches for students from std. 1-5, std. 6-8 and std 9-10.
Speaking on the occasion, KSPCB Senior Environmental Officer M.G. Yatish said that the Board had been conducted similar competitions for the past 25 years to create awareness on environmental issues.
Environment Officer M.G. Raghuram, Assistant Environment Officer Sabike Nobia, Samsthe’s Executive Director V.N. Murthy and other officials were present.
