Evict illegal bar and restaurants: DC

June 20, 2026

Submit action taken report within one week; Fire Services Dept. to train MCC on fire safety norms to issue trade licence

Mysuru: Taking cognisance of the fire mishap that occurred at a restobar in Dattagalli, leaving two dead and six injured with burns in the incident, Deputy Commissioner (DC) G. Lakshmikanth Reddy has issued stern orders to evict those bar and restaurants operating illegally in temporary structures on the second and third floor of the buildings, without taking any fire safety precautions.

In a meeting of officers held at his office yesterday, DC Reddy said, fire mishaps won’t come announced, but most of the roof top pubs and restaurants use hay stack to cover the ceiling and illuminate the premises with ornamental bulbs, caring a hoot to install any fire safety equipment.

Zonal Officers of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) should inspect the liquor vends and cancel trade licence, in case of any violations. The action taken report should be submitted within one week, he insisted.

There are several bars and pubs operating illegally in the city and the outskirts, neither without CL-7, CL-2 or CL-5 licences or in gross violation of licencing norms itself. Excise Department should conduct regular inspections and take action as per rules and regulations. If any officers are found lax in discharging their duties, action will be taken without any mercy, he warned.

The officers should act against illegal liquor vends, who are advertising online, only to attract the customers.

The Fire and Emergency Services Department shall be providing one-day training to MCC officers on fire safety norms that should be examined, while issuing any trade licence. Any applications for trade licence without adhering to fire safety regulations, should be rejected at the initial stage, he suggested.

City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar assured cooperation from the Police to Excise and MCC officers, in carrying out the raids.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baladandi said that Excise Department should look into the uncontrolled sale of liquor at home stays and bar and restaurants located in Outer Ring Roads (ORRs).

Zilla Panchayat (ZP) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) S. Ukesh Kumar, District Fire Officer Gururaj and others were present.
