Ex-Minister Qamarul Islam passes away

Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader and MLA Qamarul Islam (69) passed away this morning following heart attack at a private hospital here. He was admitted to the hospital following some health issues recently.  

The body of the former Minister was expected to be shifted to his home town Kalaburagi for last rites later today. He had served as MLA for six times and was elected as a Member of Lok Sabha in 1996 for a single term.

Qamarul Islam was elected as MLA from Kalaburagi-North constituency in the last Assembly elections and had served as Cabinet Minister for Municipal Administration, Public Enterprises, Minority Development and Waqf in the present Karnataka Government led by CM Siddaramaiah from May 2013 to June 2016.
