Explosives found near quarries

August 9, 2021

Mandya: The Mandya District authorities have recovered explosives in Chinnakurali hobli of Pandavapura taluk while monitoring quarries where use of explosives have been banned.

Four explosives have been seized by the Mobile Squad of the District Administration. A few more explosives were found in Survey Number 158 and 127 in Honganahalli. Monitoring of quarries has been going on for the last few weeks to enforce strict ban on mining and quarrying.

The monitoring was intensified after MP Sumalatha Ambareesh, raised the issue of rampant illegal mining and quarrying in the surrounding areas of KRS Dam and its potential threat to the 100-year-old structure. Close on the heels, the District Administration had revoked the licenses of several quarrying units in the district.  Deputy Commissioner Aswathi, Assistant Commissioner Shivanandamurthy, Tahsildar Pramod Patil and others participated in this monitoring process.
