Judge Vidya’s call to law students

Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that of late advocates are more inclined towards criminal cases and showing disinterest in taking up civil suits, Senior Civil Judge of the District CJM Court K. Vidya stressed on the need for extending legal aid to the disadvantaged and marginalised sections of the society.

She was speaking at a programme for first year B.A, LLB students at Vidyavardhaka College of Law on Seshadri Iyer Road here on Monday. Recalling her student days, Judge Vidya said that her teachers come to her mind whenever she is about to deliver judgements.

Pointing out that a teacher of her returned to teaching just one month after losing eyesight in an accident, she said that this incident will remain etched in her mind forever.

Asking the students not to limit themselves to just academics, she said that there is a lot to learn from society and the outside world. Observing that teachers are the leading light for students, she said that students who qualify as advocates, must concentrate more on extending legal aid to underprivileged sections rather than making money.

She regretted the tendency of advocates to show more interest in criminal cases rather than civil suits which need indepth study and proper understanding.

Vidyavardhaka Sangha President Gundappa Gowda presided. Sangha Secretary P. Vishwanath, Treasurer Srishaila Ramannavar, College Principal Dr. P. Deepu and others were present on the occasion.
