Sir,
This refers to the news item titled “First Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) facility in Asia: Overwhelming response to Trin Trin” (SOM dated July 5). At present, the hubs are located very close to one another and concentrated in the Central Business District (CBD) area and nearby except for the Chamundi Hill area.
A vast area of Ramakrishnanagar, Vivekanandanagar, Kuvempunagar and Siddarthanagar remains not catered. With R.T. Nagar and Kanakadasanagar growing up fast, it would be useful to public if the PBS facility is extended to more areas.
Also, the present cut off time of 10 pm robs the opportunity for night arrivals by train and bus to use the facility, even with some extra fee to be paid. For many in these far-flung areas, it will serve as a boon, especially when the city bus service also stops at 9.30 pm. Autorickshaws charge a huge sum after 10 pm.
Hence, I request the Trin Trin Management to evolve a scheme whereby the public can use it after 10 pm and return late night, say by 11.30 pm or early next morning.
Similarly, start the issuing operation by 5 am to help early morning users.
