Fake News: Do netas really care about the country?

September 18, 2018

Sir,

I first wish to congratulate Dr. Bhamy Shenoy for his factual, fearless, scientific and informative article titled “Petrol & Diesel: Do we see fake news floating?” (SOM dated Sept. 11).

This article should be published in all the leading national dailies also and I would urge Dr. Shenoy to give an interview on TV and explain to the common man in simple language how politicians use the media and the gullibility of the common man for their own personal gain. Do the politicians really care about the country or the people?

The people and the media seem to have a very short memory. If people who support anti-national sentiments and who jeopardise the safety of the country are arrested, they immediately raise a hue and cry about the threat to freedom of speech.

Have they forgotten the atrocities committed by the Congress Party during the Emergency? Did the papers have freedom to publish editorials criticising the Emergency? The famous magazine “Tuglaq” left the editorial page blank with a thick black border mourning the death of Freedom of the Press.

How many people died during the Emergency? How about the false charges and the arrest in 1994 of the famous scientist Nambi Narayanan? It put the clock back on Cryogenics technology. People of India, please wake up and demand honesty, corruption-free governance and fairness from our leaders and if they do not comply, do not vote for them.
