Farmer ends life after writing letter to CM

Mandya:  In a tragic incident,a 44-year-old debt-ridden farmer, who was also said to be suffering from cancer, committed suicide after writing a letter to the Chief Minister on his plight, at Kannatti in Mandya Taluk this morning.

Jayakumar (44) of Kannatti in Dudda Hobli of the taluk is the deceased. Jayakumar had secured a loan of Rs. 5 lakh from banks and private moneylenders and was unable to repay it due to crop loss and crash in prices. Even as he was worried over crop loss, he was diagnosed with cancer, which pushed him to depression, it is learnt.

A dejected Jayakumar ended his life by consuming poison at his house after writing a detailed letter to the Chief Minister of Karnataka, explaining farming woes and the plight of his family, it is learnt. Shivalli Police have registered a case in this regard.
