Farmer killed in elephant attack

Gonikoppal: A farmer was killed when a wild elephant attacked him at Nokya village in Ponnampet taluk on Monday morning.

The deceased farmer has been identified as Mallangada Sunny Changappa (62), a resident of the village. He was tying the cow in his field on Monday morning, when the wild elephant attacked and trampled him to death.

The body was shifted to Gonikoppa Community Health Centre, where post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members.

Virajpet Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Sharanabasappa, Madikeri DCF Poovaiah and Thithimathi Range Forest Officer (RFO) Ashok visited the spot and Rs. 5 lakh compensation cheque was handed over to deceased Changappa’s wife Meera.
