Farmer leaders oppose Amusement Park at Brindavan Gardens

December 29, 2024

Mandya: Zilla Raitha Hitarakshana Samiti has opposed the plan to build Amusement Park at Brindavan Gardens attached to Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam in the district.

Sunanda Jayaram, Organisational Secretary of Zilla Raitha Hitarakshana Samiti addressed the gathering of farmers, during a meeting of office-bearers of progressive organisations, convened to decide on various matters of importance, at the Tourist Bungalow in the city on Saturday.

Sunanda Jayaram said, during the meeting, the leaders expressed their common opinion registering their opposition in toto for the decision of the State Cabinet to initiate tender process for the amusement park.

The meeting has resolved to urge the Government to drop the decision on amusement park at the earliest, besides taking steps to create awareness among the farmers of Cauvery basin, by disseminating the information through media.

Awareness will be created among the people in six Gram Panchayat limits nearby KRS Dam, providing information related to technical hurdles, said Sunanda Jayaram.

It is a matter of regret that, recently Malavalli MLA P.M. Narendraswamy conducted a meeting under his Chairmanship, to create awareness on fifth phase of drinking water project to supply water from KRS Dam to Bengaluru, even though Malavalli is deprived of adequate water supply from the Dam itself.

“We had opposed this drinking water project too, as there are possibilities of Government issuing a circular to start sixth phase of the project, at an estimated cost of Rs. 4,000 crore to Rs. 7,000 crore, but there is no clarity regarding this proposal,” said Sunanda Jayaram.

We won’t allow the implementation of the sixth phase of drinking water project, as the Dam was built with the sole purpose of irrigating the agricultural lands and feed the cattle and livestock.

Farmer leaders Chandrashekar, Muddegowda, Kamala, State President of Jaya Karnataka Parishat Dr. S. Narayan, leaders Madhusudhan, Venugopal, Manjunath and Sudheer were present.
