Farmers allege menace of middlemen at APMC

March 22, 2017

Members of State Sugarcane Growers Association held a meeting at Kuvempu Park near Gun House here yesterday to discuss the injustice meted out to farmers by middlemen at Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC).

The meeting severely condemned the habit of collecting commission from farmers who come to APMC to sell fruits and vegetables, especially when the State is reeling under drought.

The meeting was presided over by the Association President Kurubur Shantakumar.

The farmers alleged that there was an irregularity in weighing agricultural produce at APMC and the humble farmers were being cheated by middleman  by extorting higher Commission.

They unanimously pointed out that the menace of the middlemen was depriving them of a justifiable price for the produce thus resulting in losses.

Shantakumar announced that a meeting would be held again on April 4 to draw an action plan to launch a struggle.

Organising Secretary Devaraj and others were present.
