Mysuru: Accusing the Mysuru-Chamarajanagar District Central Co-operative (MCDCC) Bank of not advancing fresh loans despite clearing all previous loans, farmers of Hunsur and Periyapatna taluks staged a demonstration in front of MCDCC Bank headquarters at Nehru Circle on Ashoka Road in the heart of the city yesterday.
“The Bank authorities are not advancing fresh loans to even farmers who have cleared all previous loans. The Bank has become a tool in the hands of Periyapatna MLA. The Bank which should have come to the aid of farmers, is instead behaving like a stooge of the MLA, which has angered the farming community. The farmers are growing crops believing that they would get bank loans. But unfortunately, that has not been the case and the farmers are now thrown to the streets”, they maintained and cautioned that they would end their lives by consuming poison.
Raising slogans against the Bank management, they demanded the authorities to immediately sanction fresh loans to farmers, who are in deep distress due to monsoon failure and thus come to their aid when it is most needed.
Former MLA K. Mahadev, former MyMUL President Prasanna and others were present.
