Fastag compulsory for all four-wheelers from Jan. 1

September 10, 2020

New Delhi: In a significant move amid the COVID-19 crisis, the Union Ministry of Road Transport has decided to make Fastag compulsory for all four-wheelers  across the country with effect from Jan. 1, 2021.

Earlier, Fastag was mandatory for four-wheelers manufactured since 2017. But now, the Ministry has decided to make it compulsory for all four-wheelers, not withstanding their year of manufacture. The Ministry will bring in necessary amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act (IMV Act) for implementing the same.

The Union Government with a view to prevent traffic congestion at Toll points on Highways and to encourage digital transactions, had introduced Fastag policy sometime ago.
