Mysuru: The RI Dist. 3181 Senior Citizen Committee, in association with Rotary Club of Mysore West and Elder Citizen Council Trust, honoured senior citizens on the occasion of Senior Citizens Day here recently.
The World Senior Citizen Day-cum-Chithana Mantana (Seminar) was inaugurated by District Governor Joseph Mathew.
The five senior citizens who were honoured on the occasion are PDG Rtn. ASN Hebbar (Kundapur), S.V. Gowdappa (retd. Chief Engineer and Chairman, Elder Citizen Trust, Mysuru), Rtn. K.V. Muthy (art patron), Rtn. S. Sundaram (retd. Director of Shipping Corporation of India) and Krishnappa Gowda (retd. Director of Horticulture and President, ECC Council).
Chief guest for the occasion, Arvind Jatti, son of B.D. Jatti, former Vice-President of India, delivered the keynote address.
He started by opining that Senior Citizens Day should have been celebrated by youth and Youth Day by senior citizens for a true understanding of the importance of the occasion.
Later, speeches by Prof. V.K. Nataraj, Prof. Indira, Rtn. B.R. Pai and PDG ASN Hebbar provided different and positive prospective of the subject, which surely will come handy to senior citizens as they navigate their silver years.
Earlier, Sucharitha of Rotary School rendered invocation. Committee Chairman Rtn. Sridhara Raj Urs welcomed the gathering.
