An incident of a miscreant entering the ward of a female heart patient at Jayadeva Hospital in city’s K.R. Hospital premises in the guise of a doctor and decamping with her 90 gram gold ornaments worth Rs. 3 lakh on Feb.15, has now come to light.

The robbed woman, who was undergoing treatment at the hospital for a minor heart ailment has been identified as Nagamani, a resident of Ramakrishnanagar.

It is reported that Nagamani, who complained of chest pain on Feb. 13 was admitted to the hospital where doctors performed a minor surgery on the next day.

While taking Nagamani to the Operation Theatre, doctors asked her (Nagamani) to remove her jewellery and the woman promptly removed her ornaments and handed them over to her daughter Tejawathi.

Tejawathi, who brought the jewels from home after the surgery, handed it over to her mother at the Semi -Special Ward where Nagamani was kept for post-operative observation.

At about 3 pm, Dr. Santosh attached to the hospital came to the ward and examined Nagamani and left.

At about 4 pm, a 28 to 30 year-old miscreant, who entered the ward in the guise of a doctor,  asked Tejawathi for her mother’s medical report to which Tejawathi replied that she did not have one.

The miscreant later took Tejawathi to the Out-Patient Department of the hospital and asked her to wait there till he comes back with Nagamani’s medical reports.

Even as Tejawathi was waiting for him to come with reports, the miscreant went back to Nagamani’s ward and asked her to remove her ornaments saying that he wanted to give her an injection.

When the unsuspecting Nagamani removed her jewels, the miscreant received her ornaments and pretended to keep them under her pillow, before fleeing with the same.

Meanwhile, Tejawathi’s brother Girish, who came to the ward called Tejawathi, enquired about her whereabouts and asked her to come to the ward at once.

Tejawathi, who rushed to the ward was shocked to find that Nagamani’s jewels were missing and enquired with hospital authorities who clarified that no other doctor had gone to Nagamani’s ward after Dr. Santosh visit.

Devaraja Inspector S. Nagesh and staff, who rushed to the hospital on information, conducted mahazar and registered a case.

It is said that only one CCTV camera out of four installed in Jayadeva Hospital is in working condition and the blurred pictures of the miscreant with Tejawathi at the Out-Patient Department has affected investigations, it is said.
