Mysuru: The much-anticipated Mysuru Film City project near Immavu in Nanjangud taluk has hit a roadblock due to land acquisition-related disputes, prompting the District Administration to step in with corrective measures.
District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa confirmed that land identification and acquisition have been completed, and initial construction work has begun.
The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), which is executing the project, has already acquired the required land and started constructing a compound wall at the Kochanahalli Industrial Area.
However, protests have emerged after a section of farmers, claiming ownership despite lacking valid documentation, continued cultivating parts of the acquired land.
To resolve the standoff, authorities have proposed humanitarian relief measures for the affected farmers, including employment opportunities in upcoming factories and financial assistance. The Government has assured that construction will resume once an amicable solution is found.
Selling and reselling dispute
The dispute is further complicated by earlier land transactions. Farmers had reportedly sold their land to private developers at relatively low prices for a proposed golf course project. These developers later resold the same land to KIADB at significantly higher rates, triggering demands for fair compensation from the original landowners.
Some of the affected individuals have urged the Government to either provide alternative housing on 10 acres of land or extend other forms of relief.
In response, district officials have been directed to explore feasible options to ensure equitable compensation and address farmers’ grievances.
Dr. Mahadevappa stated that the administration is committed to finding a fair resolution and ensuring the smooth progress of the Mysuru Film City project, which is expected to be a major cultural and economic boost for the region.
