Mysuru: A case has been registered at the Jayalakshmipuram Police Station against former Corporator Avva Madesh and his associate Nagu for allegedly threatening a businessman and demanding Rs. 5 lakh to allow him to operate a franchise at Gokulam.
The FIR, filed on Apr. 28 under Sections 308(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, is based on a complaint by Krishnakami Reddy, son of Keshava Reddy and a resident of Manchegowdanakoppal, Mysuru.
Section 308(2) of the BNS elaborates on extortion by putting someone in fear of accusation, while Section 3(5) defines “Court” within the context of the BNS.
Reddy had taken up interior design work for a Barista Café franchise located on Gokulam Main Road after he signed an agreement with the building owner.
According to the complaint, on Jan. 24, a man named Nagu visited the site, claiming to be associated with Avva Madesh, and demanded Rs. 5 lakh, warning that the business would not be allowed to function without payment.
Though the complainant sought time to arrange the money, he allegedly received another call from Nagu on Feb. 2, again threatening to halt interior work unless the demand was met.
However, Krishnakami Reddy continued work but on Apr. 10, received a call from someone claiming to be Avva Madesh, asking him to visit his residence for further discussion. Since then, the complainant claims to have received repeated threatening calls from the same phone number and has sought legal protection.
In response, Avva Madesh has denied the allegations, stating: “I have not engaged in any such activities and do not know the complainant. If a case was filed, the Police should have first called me for questioning or verified my call records. Instead, an FIR was registered without investigation.”
While acknowledging that Nagu works for him, Madesh said, “He is not someone who would threaten others.”
