Mysore/Mysuru: As summer approaches, temperatures rise, often resulting in an increase in fire-related incidents.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services in Mysuru conducted a coordinated exercise on response and fire services demonstration across various locations. In Mysuru city, the event took place at Srirampura School, with simultaneous demonstrations held at K.R. Nagar, Periyapatna, H.D. Kote and Hunsur taluks.

Participants in the programme included students, representatives from industries, shops, malls, petrol outlets, hospitals and staff from various Government Departments.

The Department has taken proactive measures by ensuring maximum personnel are on standby, overhauling all vehicles and equipment, and making special arrangements to respond promptly to fires in both urban and rural areas. With the mercury rising, the Department anticipates a surge in fire-related incidents and is gearing up for a busy summer.

To further enhance readiness, the Department is conducting public awareness and sensitisation programmes aimed at educating people about fire prevention measures, as highlighted by District Fire Services Officer K.P. Gururaj.

During the demonstration, personnel showcased fire-fighting equipment and explained precautionary measures to prevent fire accidents. Topics covered included fire prevention, identification of fire hazards, emergency evacuation procedures and the correct use of fire extinguishers.

Practical demonstrations involved showcasing various fire safety techniques and equipment. District Fire Station personnel demonstrated the use of fire extinguishers, fire blankets and other fire-fighting tools, along with the process of evacuating a building during a fire emergency. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify doubts regarding fire safety.

“A preparedness plan has been chalked out to tackle a busy summer and it will be reviewed from time to time. According to the plan, in order to ensure that maximum fire-fighters are on standby. All vehicles and equipment have been overhauled and kept ready for deployment. During summer, fire-related incidents are also reported from agricultural fields in rural areas,” Gururaj added.
