Fire: Trees, plants in CFTRI campus destroyed

An incident of fire destroying wooden logs, trees and plants, has been reported from Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) premises here yesterday afternoon.

It is reported that workers had put fire to dry leaves and waste near the north gate of the campus, which soon spread destroying trees and plants on 1.5-acre plot in the campus besides destroying about 15 wooden logs, which were cut and kept.

The staff who noticed thick smoke emanating in the 1.5-acre plot, immediately informed the Fire and Emergency Services personnel at Saraswathipurm.

The fire personnel led by Station Officer Nagaraj Urs, who rushed to the spot along with four fire extinguishing vehicles succeeded in dousing the fire after a three-hour long operation                                              and prevented the fire from spreading further.
