March 1, 2018

Mysuru: Most  Rev. Dr. K.A. William, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Mysore, celebrated the first anniversary of his Episcopal Ordination coinciding with his 53rd birthday at a function held at the Indoor Stadium of St. Philomena’s College here on Feb.27.

He was ordained as Priest of the Diocese of Mysore on May 18, 1993.  Pope Francis appointed him the Bishop of Mysore in January last year and he was consecrated as the sixth Bishop of Mysore on Feb. 27, 2017.

On the occasion, the Priests and the religious of the Diocese wished him for the Silver Jubilee of his priestly Ordination as he will be shortly completing 25 years of his priestly life.

About 1,200 priests and religious of the Diocese attended  the felicitation function following which the Bishop gave a concelebrated Thanksgiving Mass along with about 200 priests.

In spite of his hectic schedules, the Bishop has visited almost all the Parishes and institutions coming under the Diocese. He has also been striving to bring about excellence and accountability in all the 141 educational institutions spread over the four districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar, from nursery to Post-Graduate level.

As part of his Sacerdotal Silver Jubilee, the Diocese has dedicated a project of construction of a residential unit for Sneha Kiran of Mysore Spastic Society at Ganangur on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway. The project, which costs about Rs. 1.6 crore, will be a memorial of Bishop K.A. William’s Sacerdotal Silver Jubilee.

Msgr. C. Rayappa, the Vicar General of the Diocese welcomed the gathering. Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Dr. Antony K. Vazhapilly and Rev. Fr. Dominic Vaz felicitated the Jubilarian.
