Five-day Intl. workshop on ‘Challenges in Field Hydrological Research’

October 31, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: Relative to the other fields of Science, Hydrology is a new field of learning. Knowledge about many hydrological processes is yet meagre, and a lot remains to be learnt on the field.

The National Institute of Engineering, Mysuru (NIE) and Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), are two among the very few academic institutions that have developed facilities for field research in the domain of Hydrology in the country. These two institutions have now joined hands to organise an international workshop online, which aims to popularise field research among teachers, students and professionals in the field of Water Resources.

Titled “About the Joy, Opportunities and Challenges in Field Hydrological Research”, the international workshop is scheduled for five days from Nov.2 to 6. Resource persons from across the country and from Canada and France will be delivering lecture-demonstrations on these days, in sessions between 4 pm and 6.30 pm daily.

Prof. Jeffrey McDonnell from Global Institute for Water Security at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, who has set up field laboratories in New Zealand, the US and Canada, will deliver the keynote address on the first day. Participation as delegates is open to faculty members of Civil, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering in academic institutions, Post-Graduate students, research scholars and professionals working in the domain.
