Five-year-old girl and mentally challenged teen handed over to Women and Child Welfare Department

Mysuru: A 25-year-old mentally challenged girl and a five-year-old girl, who were in distress since four months were handed over to the Department of Women and Child Welfare in the presence of Additional DC (ADC) Anuradha on Tuesday.

The five-year-old girl, daughter of 38-year-old Mahalakshmi, second wife of Dayananda Murthy, a resident of Gokulam and the 25-year-old mentally challenged teen girl were handed over by Odalu organisation Member      T.R. Sandhya.

According to the complaint by Sandhya to V.V. Puram Police and ADC Anuradha, she has stated that on Dec. 6, 2018 at about 11 pm, Mahalakshmi received a call on her mobile phone (96238-67279/93435-03306) and she (Mahalakshmi) left the house saying that she had to meet someone and has not returned till date. A case was also registered at V.V. Puram Police Station in this regard.

Details: Mahalakshmi, who has gone missing is known to Odalu organisation Member Sandhya. Mahalakshmi has been staying at House No. 57, on the sixth Cross Road at Gokulam 1st Stage since 2016 and was staying her brother and sister, who are mentally challenged and her daughter. Mahalakshmi’s husband Dayananda Murthy used drop in to the house occasionally, it is learnt.On Dec. 6, 2018, Mahalakshmi, left her house after receiving a call on her mobile phone and has not returned.

Speaking to media persons, Sandhya said that efforts were made to trace Mahalakshmi since four months but in vain. Mahalakshmi’s brother, sister and her daughter,  who were under her care, were left alone. In the better interest of Mahalakshmi’s sister and daughter, they were handed over to the Women and Child Welfare Department along with necessary documents in the presence of ADC Anuradha,  she added.
