Flood water ravages paddy fields

August 3, 2021

Suttur: Ready-to-harvest paddy is rotting in fields due to floods following huge discharge of water into Kapila River from the Kabini Dam.

Paddy crops in Suttur, Hosakote, Kupparavalli, Nagarle, Bilugale and Thayur villages have started rotting due to flooding. These villages are located on the side of Kabini River and come under Varuna Assembly Constituency.

Farmers are disappointed as the crop has been destroyed. “Life of farmers will only improve if the State Government announces crop compensation immediately,” said Nanjundaswamy, a farmer leader.

There are also reports of the standing crop being destroyed due to excess water in Hullahalli and Rampura Canal due to continuous rains. This has resulted in fodder scarcity. The District Administration must open the fodder bank, he added.
