Florence Nightingale’s 200th birthday celebrated in city

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru District Nursing Teachers and Nurses Association, Karnataka State Government Nurses Association (District Unit) and The Trained Nurses Association of India, had jointly organised a function in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at the North Gate of Mysore Palace to celebrate the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale, the Founder of Modern Nursing.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said that those who take care of patients with love without neglecting them are the nurses. Nurses should have a lot of patience to take care of the sick, she added.

Pramoda Devi said that the seed planted by Nightingale centuries ago has now grown into a huge tree and added that the demand for nurses has increased in recent times. She also appreciated the contributions of nurses in the medical field.

Later, hundreds of nurses and nursing students took out a candle light procession from Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple, which passed through K.R. Circle, Sayyaji Rao road and culminated near JSS Mahavidyapeetha.

Indian Nursing Council President Dr. T. Dileep Kumar, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. R. Venkatesh, Palace Board Deputy Director T.S. Subramanya, Cauvery Hospital Chairman Dr. G.R. Chandrashekar, Chaitra Hospital CEO Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Prof. Girijambadevi, Anitha Victoria, Shashidhar, Mohanraj, Sheela Williams, Susheela and others were present.
