Mysuru: Focus, time management and a systematic approach to studies are essential for success in competitive examinations, said C.R. Kalpashree, Chief Administrative Officer, Command Area Development Authority (CADA).
She was speaking after inaugurating the second paper of the fourth mock test for KAS Preliminary Examinations, organised by the City Central Library in association with the Gnanagangothri Competitive Examination Training Centre at the Central Library premises in city yesterday.
Candidates should first identify their strengths and weaknesses and draw up a study plan based on their assessment, she said.
“Candidates must give equal importance to all subjects while paying particular attention to revising topics they have already studied. Choosing reliable study material is equally important. Instead of referring to too many sources, it is better to select the right material and study it repeatedly to gain clarity and command over the subject.
“Candidates should also prepare checklists of important points, organise their study material and make their own notes. These will come in handy during revision in the final stages of examination preparation,” Kalpashree said.
Advising candidates to limit their use of mobile phones and make judicious use of time, she also stressed the importance of group discussions. Interacting with fellow candidates, she said, would help them understand subjects from different perspectives.
Consistent hard work, disciplined preparation, confidence and the right study methods were essential to succeeding in competitive examinations, she added.
B. Manjunath, Deputy Director of the City Central Library, spoke about National Library Week, to be observed from Nov. 14 to 20. He appealed to students, library users and the public to take part in the programmes organised as part of the week.
National Library Week, he said, would help create awareness about the importance of libraries and encourage reading habits and the pursuit of knowledge. Dr. Ramashesh, retired Librarian, University of Mysore; S. Soumya, Assistant Librarian, People’s Park City Central Library, and library staff were present.
