‘Folklore portrays lifestyle of people’

September 25, 2018

Mysuru:  Marking the launch of Rangahejje Cultural Trust and Janapada Nruthyotsava, an event was organised at Vanaranga in Rangayana premises.

Inaugurating the programme MLA S.A. Ramdas opined that Folklore was not just a dance but portrayed the lifestyle of people and added that food habits and medicinal practices were also parts of folklore. He pointed out that folklore should not be confined to villages and tribals but should spread everywhere.

Continuing, Ramdas contended that folk programmes should be organised all through the year and not during Dasara only. He said that such programmes were essential as people were getting obsessed with English language. He sought good research work on folk literature and added that folk medicine and folk science should get right recognition. He observed that folk science throws light on movement of planets, satellite and formation of eclipses. He advised the youth not to fall prey for narcotics.

Speaking on the occasion former MLA S. Balaraj opined that folklore was like ‘Mother root’ and Sugama Sangeetha, classical music and dance were the offshoots. He sought a good platform for folk artistes.

Theatre Artiste Mime Ramesh, Corporator B.V. Manjunath, Cardiac Surgeon Dr. J. Veena, Trust President M. Chinnaswamy, Actor Jayaprakash and others were present.
