Undeterred by chain theft, 84-year-old lady makes a daring statement catching City Top Cop by surprise
Mysuru: Come what may, I won’t stop wearing the gold chain!
This mighty resolve of a octogenarian woman, announcing her tryst with the yellow metal, caught everybody including the City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar by surprise, at the Property Return Parade organised by the City Police at City Police Commissioner’s Office in Nazarbad yesterday.
Vijayalakshmi, aged 84 and a resident of ‘M’ block, Kuvempunagar in the city had been relieved of her gold chain weighing 11.5 grams by chain snatchers. During the Property Return Parade, the Police who had cracked the case, returned the valuable to her.
Reacting to the advice of the Police to be cautious henceforth, Vijayalakshmi, retorted by saying that “Should I stop wearing the valuables for the fear of robbers? I have been wearing jewels since past and can’t live without wearing them. Let them rob for another four times, I won’t stop wearing the jewellery.”
When the women present among the gathering, tried to dissuade her, Vijayalakshmi who sounded undeterred, shot back at them; If you don’t want to wear jewellery, remain like that. I will be wearing them.
Vijayalakshmi was on a walk, when chain snatchers yanked off her gold chain near a medical store in Kuvempunagar.
