Mysore/Mysuru: R. Raghu Kautilya, former Chairman of Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA), has stressed the need for forming a Vigilance Squad to check encroachment of footpaths. 

In a press release, he has urged the District Administration, Police, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to jointly constitute a Vigilance Squad to protect footpaths from encroachment. 

“The spacious footpaths has been the hallmark of Mysuru city, thanks to the vision of rulers. The MCC and Police have turned a blind eye to dumping of construction debris by citizens in city. Upon filing footpath encroachment complaint, what they will get is acknowledgement and not action. The encroached footpaths have marred the city beauty,” he added.

Raghu further said, “Police can book cases under Section 283 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against footpath encroachers and penalise them. But it was not happening due to some reasons. Need of the hour was to launch a major drive against footpath encroachment before it was too late.”
