Former India football captain no more

Mysore/Mysuru: Carlton Chapman (49), former India football captain and a resident of J.P. Nagar in Mysuru, passed away on Oct. 12 at Bengaluru, following heart attack. 

He leaves behind his wife Rachel, daughter Ruth, son Carrick and a host of relatives and friends.

A creative midfielder, Chapman played for India between 1995 and 2001 and the country won the 1997 SAFF Championship  under his captaincy. 

At the Club level, he had two successful spells — one with East Bengal and the other with JCT Mills (now defunct).

Funeral took place at Shanthinagar Catholic Cemetery in Bengaluru yesterday, according to sources.
