Former India footballer Subhas Bhowmick passes away

Kolkata: Former India footballer and renowned coach Subhas Bhowmick, passed away here today. He was 72.

Bhowmick was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kolkata for the past few days.

He was suffering from kidney-related complications and chest pain. A diabetic, Bhowmick underwent coronary bypass surgery 23 years ago. Bhowmick played for both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.

He was also a bronze-medallist with the Indian team at the Asian Games in 1970.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her sorrow at the passing away of Bhowmick.
