Mysore/Mysuru: Former Mayor Narayan today slammed the Centre for adopting anti-labour policies and removal of many Labour Acts to help multi-national companies.

Addressing a press meet under the banner of Karnataka State Local Bodies Scavengers Association at Jaladarshini Guest House on Hunsur Road here this morning, Narayan, who is the State President of the Association, said that the Centre using the lockdown period had removed nearly 45 important Labour Acts and has made only four Acts which will pose a lot of problems to labourers and added that the new Acts would only benefit investors, owners and multi-national companies.

Narayan said that the Centre has removed various Labour Acts which protect equal wages, bonus, minimum wages etc. which would benefit labourers. The new Acts would bring labourers to the streets as they neither provide job security nor life security and wage security.

He said that the new Acts would make nearly 50% labourers in the country lose permanent jobs and make them contract labourers, should work for 12 hours, should take the wages whatever the owner gives and no compensation would be provided if a labourer died on duty among others.

Stating that there were more than 30 crore labourers working in organised and un-organised sectors in the country, Narayan demanded the Centre to take back the new Labour Acts and continue the earlier Acts. He warned of launching a massive agitation along with labourers, labour associations and Pourakarmika associations if the Centre fails to take back the new Labour Acts.
