Former Mayor urges to absorb, regularise service of 252 Contract Pourakarmikas

July 7, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: The meeting of Karnataka Rajya Mahanagara Palike, Nagarasabhe, Purasabhegala Pourakarmikara Mahasangha, Mysuru District Committee, held at Babu Jagjivan Ram Bhavan at Paduvarahalli in city recently, has resolved to demand the authorities concerned to absorb and regularise the service of 252 Pourakarmikas working on contract basis at Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), based on their seniority.

State President of the Sangha and former Mayor Narayana, said that presently 1,300 Pourakarmikas are working under Direct Payment and Additional Payment systems and it has been decided to regularise the service of 252 Pourakarmikas among them. The seniority should be taken into consideration, with the applications invited for recruitment of Pourakarmikas and fixing the age limit of 55 years for submitting the application. Some of the Pourakarmikas, are already 53 to 54 years old and hence they should be given first priority in recruitment. If their service is not regularised now, they will be deprived of Government facilities, the Recruitment Authority should take this into notice, demanded Narayana.

The Recruitment Authority formed to screen the Pourakarmikas should also have Officers of other Departments too, but has on board, only five Officers of MCC Health Section, which has given rise to many suspicions. We demand that, Officers of Social Welfare Department and other Departments be deputed to Recruitment Panel.

While receiving the applications, the records related to Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) and Provident Fund (PF) will also be considered. But the related records are being tweaked and some Pourakarmikas already have got forged records in hand. A complaint will be submitted to Urban Development Minister and Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru, to conduct a probe into these irregularities, said Narayana.

He also alleged that, some of the Pourakarmika leaders are already swindling money on the pretext of facilitating job. Pourakarmikas should not pay heed to such assurances, as the recruitment process is conducted by the Government, with no scope for outsiders interference.

Suspecting the chances of corruption in recruitment process, Narayana further alleged that, even after having served for 18 years and possessing all the relevant documents, some of them are still seeking the photocopies of related records.

Pourakarmika Association District President Artiste Nagaraj said, the applications for recruitment of  252 Pourakarmikas at MCC will be received from July 18. They should be alert, as the possibilities of irregularities in recruitment were high, he warned.

Former Corporator R. Shivanna, leaders Yatiraj, R. Das, Jayaramu, Arun Kumar, P. Manjunath, Shankar Babu, Mahadevu, Railway Ganganna, M.D. Venkatesh, N.P. Gurudatt, Shankarappa, Shesha, Vijay and others were present.
